4 October 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

William John Blanch, 75, Langworthy, former Anamosa resident, died Thursday morning, Oct. 4, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. A. Morris Lotte, of the Congregational church, Monticello, will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Mechanicsville.

Pallbearers include Lawrence Brown, Leonard Koppenhaver, John Koppenhaver, Howard Mason, Glenn Kern and Merle Miller.

Masonic service will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. at the Goettsch Funeral home.

He was born Nov. 1, 1886, son of Robert C. and Emma Barlow Blanch, Stradford, Kan. He was married to Mary Ellen Robertson who preceded him in death Oct. 27, 1946. He married Della Rogers who preceded him in death April 26, 1961.

He was employed as athletic director at the Men's reformatory for 18 years. He moved from Anamosa to Cedar Rapids in 1947, and had lived the last year in Langworthy.

He had played baseball in the Anamosa area for a number of years before moving to Cedar Rapids. He was a member of Masonic lodge No. 46, Anamosa, and Amber Grotto, Cedar Rapids. He was a retired employee of Allis Chalmers, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a daughter, Lucille, Mrs. John J. Smith, Monticello; four sisters, Ella, Mrs. Edson Koppenhaver, Mechanicsville; Jennie, Mrs. Floyd Brown, Mechanicsville; Alice, Mrs. Herbert Proctor, Bramer, Mo.; Leila, Mrs. Leila Shryock, Wessington Spring. S. Dak.

Besides his wives and parents he was preceded in death by an infant son and infant daughter.
