Funeral services were held for Edward J. Sazma, 82, of Oxford Junction at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction. The Rev. R. J. Sigwarth officiated. Burial was at Mayflower cemetery.

The Hayden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Scripture service was Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Sazma died Sunday, April 12 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. He was born on January 3, 1899 at Prairieburg to Mathias and Anna Divoky Sazma. The family moved to Oxford Junction when he was a small child, and he graduated from the Oxford Junction High School in 1917. In 1921, he graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and practiced that profession for several years.

He returned to Oxford Junction to farm, and was a pioneer in growing alfalfa in contour farming in this area. In 1950 he began a seed business and bought, processed and sold seed. In 1960, he sold his farm and moved this business to town. Along with his seed business, he also sold insurance. In 1965 he sold the seed business and became semi-retired.

Ill health caused his move to a nursing home in 1977.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors are two nieces and three nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and four sisters.
