Rachel Ellen Pye, 91, died July 16, 1980 at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Manchester.

She was born near Waubeek on February 18, 1889, the daughter of Walter and Esther Baldwin Barrett and spent her childhood in the Viola area.

On June 29, 1910 she married Wilbert Pye at Anamosa. The couple farmed in Jones County until retiring to Morley in 1945. After the death of her husband in 1962, she continued to live in her home until 1 1/2 years ago when failing health forced her to move to a nursing home.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Morley and the United Methodist Women.

Surviving her are one son, Judson Eugene Pye of Morley, one daughter Mrs. Milton (Byrdena) Bader of Dubuque, one niece Mrs. Eugene (Gladys) Kell of Manchester who was raised by Ellen, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Arthur Barrett of Marion and Melvin Barrett of Portland, OR.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two daughters, one granddaughter, one brother and four sisters.

Services were held on July 18, 1980 at the Hayden Funeral Home in Olin at 11 a.m. with burial in Green Cemetery near Morley. Rev. Dick Harberts officiated. Soloist was Andy McKean and the organist was Mrs. Greg Von Behren. Pallbearers were Ralph Barger, John Willison, Ray Jayne, Mervin Switzer, Edman Vernon, and Robert Seeger.
