Mrs. Claire L. Stauffer, Spencer, former Anamosan, died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 14, at Spencer hospital shortly after she had been admitted. Death was attributed to cerebral hemorrhage.

Funeral service was conducted Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 18, at the Jones Funeral home in Spencer and further service was held Feb. 19 at Ann Arbor, Mich., where burial was made beside her husband.

Born Claire Lucile Walker, daughter of Ida M. and George W. Walker, on Dec. 6, 1897, in Decatur county, Iowa, she grew to womanhood in Anamosa, graduating from Anamosa high school and later began a course in nurses' training in Mercy hospital.

She was married to Forest T. Stauffer in April, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, and they first made their home in Madison, Wis. Later they lived for 10 years in Ann Arbor where Mr. Stauffer died in July, 1937.

Mrs. Stauffer had been bookkeeper for the Ewing Home Insurance Co. in Spencer and had then purchased and operated a sandwich shop until she gave up the business a few months ago.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. George W. Walker, Anamosa; three sisters, Mrs. Leo M. Andre, Lisbon; Mrs. Frank Cash, Spencer and Mrs. Henry Hansen, Stanwood; and a brother, George S. Walker, Honolulu, Hawaii, former Anamosan.
