Services for William R. Shimanek, 65, of Oxford Junction were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction. The Rev. R. J. Sigwarth officiated.

Burial was at Mayflower Cemetery with military graveside services. Scripture service was Thursday evening at Hayden Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were John Pashek, L. L. McCreight, Louis Ledvina, Otto Koranda, Vernon Shedek and Stanley Coon.

Mr. Shimanek died at his home on January 20.

He was born December 4, 1915 in Oxford Junction to Frank and Tillie Henak Shimanek. On July 4, 1959 he was married to Doris Anna Edlund of Minneapolis.

He was a graduate of Oxford Junction High School and received a BS in Business from the University of Iowa in 1940.

He was an Independent Insurance Agent and provided Income Tax Service for 35 years. During that period he also served as Oxford Junction City Clerk and as secretary to the Oxford Junction Board of Education.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II with the 20th Armor Division and Tank Batilion.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church; University of Iowa Alumni Association; American Legion, Wapsie Post, and was past commandor and the Jones County Voiture No. 628.

Survivors include his wife, three sisters, Blanche Fifield and Anna Kramer of St. Paul and Kay Mulvihill of Oxford Junction; and one brother, Francis of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister and two brothers.

A memorial has been established for Mr. Shimanek.
