Last rites for Walter Franklin James, 60, who died Sunday at 6 p.m. at his home after a brief illness, were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Smykil Funeral home by Rev. T. E. Maule, pastor of the Christian church at Martelle.

Burial was in Norwich cemetery at Martelle. Casketbearers included Will Fischer, Anamosa, C. J. Darsee, Walter Ellison, Otto Fisher, George Hurt and George Uthoff, all Martelle.

Mr. James, a retired farmer, had made his home in Anamosa for more than four years.

He is survived by his widow, to whom he was wed in Maquoketa on Feb. 18, 1903; three sons, Walter, Cedar Rapids; Elmer, Martelle, and Russell, Mount Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Clara Mallie, Mount Vernon, and Mrs. Thelma Tschantz, Monticello; and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Revelle, Chickasaw, Okla., Miss Katie James, Hutchinson, Kan., and Mrs. Alma Douglas, Wichita, Kan.
