Funeral services were held for George Schimerda, 81, of Oxford Junction at 2:30 on Saturday, March 15 at the United Methodist Church and burial was at Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.

The Rev. Kenneth Hamann officiated at the services. Hayden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Raymond Sobotka, Ronald Kress, Tom Rohwedder, James Balichek, Donald Benhart and Keith Barber.

Mr. Shimerda died Wednesday, March 12 at the Marshalltown Community Hospital.

He was born January 19, 1899 near Oxford Junction, the son of Frank and Emma Sokol Shimerda.

After graduating from the Oxford Junction High School, he attended the Cedar Rapids Business College.

On October 10, 1921 he married Hulda Martin at Beaver, Iowa. They farmed south of Oxford Junction until retiring to town in 1977. Mr. Shimerda operated a game reserve on his farm and was active in soil conservation.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and of Elk Lodge No. 251 of Cedar Rapids.

Surviving are his wife of Oxford Junction; one daughter, Mrs. Don (Janet) Allbee of Marshalltown and two grandchildren.
