MARTELLE--Funeral service was held in Mount Vernon Thursday afternoon, Nov. 6, for Charles Edward Kohl, 65, life-long resident of this vicinity, who died at his home near Mount Vernon Monday, Nov. 3, after a long illness.

Born in 1876, one of 11 children of Amos and Mariah Grimm Kohl, he was united in marriage to Fannie Bell Andre in 1896. They established their home on the farm of his birthplace, and lived there until a few years ago.

Surviving are his wife and seven children: Mrs. Chauncey Pieper, Stanwood; Mrs. John Siver, Mechanicsville; Mrs. Godfrey Ruebenek, Maquoketa; Mrs. Claude Von Sprecken, Martelle; Mrs. Donald Sigmond, Mount Vernon; Earl E. and Darrell A., Mount Vernon.

Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. George Melton, Mechanicsville, and Mrs. Emma Stearns and Mrs. Art Neal, Cedar Rapids; and two brothers, Henry F., Marion, and Lewis, Mechanicsville.

Rev. Joseph Grey conducted the service and burial was in White Oak cemetery. Pallbearers were Ira Hempy, Dell Kohl, Herbert Kohl, Raymond Stearns, Amos Kohl and Clarence Kline, all nephews of the deceased.
