Final rites for John Steenhoek, 80, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Smykil Funeral home with Rev. J. K. Delahooke, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating.

Burial was in Forest cemetery. Casket bearers included J. M. Bray, Charles Green, Karl G. Mershon, J. E. Tyler, Tice Platner and Carl Underwood.

Mr. Steenhoek died in his sleep Sunday morning at his home here after a long illness.

Born on Sept. 12, 1861, at Pella, Iowa, he grew to manhood in that community. He was married on Oct. 11, 1883, to Miss Jennie Van Genderen, all Pella. Six of their eight children survive him.

He engaged in farming throughout his entire life, first in the county of his birth and then in Missouri and South Dakota before returning to Iowa. In 1916 he moved with his family to a farm near Amber then retired to Anamosa where he had made his home since except for five years when he again returned to the farm.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Pierie, Elk River, Minn., and Mrs. Maggie Trimmell, Coyville, Kan.; four sons, Gerrit Steenhoek, Robert Steenhoek, William Steenhoek and John Steenhoek, jr., all Anamosa; 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
