September 25, 1941 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Richard Brownell, 29, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Downing, who was found dead in bed at her home two miles northwest of Wyoming Wednesday morning about 10 a.m., will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church. Rev. Nicholas, Wyoming Presbyterian pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. J. K. Delahooke. Smykil's Funeral home will be in charge and burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Brownell, teacher in the Wyoming high school, had been granted a month's leave of absence Friday because of ill health. Discovery of her death, which followed a heart attack, was made by her parents when they called to take her to a physician.

Mrs. Brownell's sister, Jean, was found dead in her bed two years ago at Tama where she was teaching. She was also the victim of a heart attack.

A graduate of the Anamosa high school, Mrs. Brownell also was graduated from the University of Iowa and taught home economics in the Wyoming high school for two years before her marriage in August, 1939.

She is survived by her parents and husband; a brother, L. A. Downing, Anamosa, and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Yount, Anamosa, and Mrs. Marvin Westphal, Olin.
