March 21, 1963 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. L. B. "Mary" Calloway, 66, died Tuesday, March 19, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 22, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Gerald Shibley, pastor of the Center Junction Presbyterian church, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Antioch cemetery.

Pallbearers include Harold Heideman, jr., Ronald Hanna, Edwin Reid, Fay Nielsen, Boyd Brandt and James Austin.

Mrs. James T. Remley will be organist. Mrs. Frank Miller, Center Junction, will be soloist.

She was born Feb. 11, 1897, daughter of Jacob Shirk and Cora Sheib Shirk, Monmouth. She was married May 31, 1927, to Leonard B. Calloway, at Indianola, Iowa.

Couple made their home on farms in Jackson and Jones counties. Since the death of her husband in March 1959 she had made her home in Wyoming. She worked as a practical nurse before her marriage. She is a member of the Maquoketa Methodist church.

Survivors include four daughters, Vivian, Mrs. Don Hay, San Jose, Calif.; Maxine, Mrs. Robert Von Sprecken, Center Junction; Marilyn, Mrs. Harold Eggers, Anamosa; Carol, Mrs. Richard Hefler, Opalocka, Fla., two sons, George, Center Junction and James, Sterling, Mass.

Others include two brothers, Earl Shirk, Wadsworth, Ohio; and Curtis Shirk, Grand Island, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. Grace McGaffee, Beverly Hills, Calif.

Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and one grandchild.
