28 August 1941 - The Anamosa Journal

Final rites for D. J. Dirks, 70, retired farmer living near Monticello, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Wayne Zion Lutheran church with Rev. F. H. Kehren officiating. Burial was in Wayne cemetery.

Mr. Dirks died early last Thursday morning at Mercy hospital following a long illness.

Born in Germany on April 6, 1871, he came to Jones county with his parents when he was only a month old. His parents farmed and following in their footsteps, Mr. Dirks farmed near Monticello until his retirement several years ago. He was married to Mary Eden, who survives, in Wayne church, of which he was a member.

Mr. Dirks is survived by his wife, three children, Ernest Dirks, Anamosa; Mrs. Henry Weers, Center Junction, and Mrs. Lawrence Shaeffer, Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Will Folkerts and Mrs. Fred Hults, both Anamosa; and three brothers, John Dirks, Langworthy, and Henry and Herman Dirks, both of Anamosa.
