25 October 1979 - The Midland Times

Funeral service for Orville E. Long, 77, was held Saturday morning at the United Methodist church, with burial in the Olin cemetery. Rev. Edward Peterson officiated. Mrs. Tom Levsen was organist. Pallbearers were Edwin Andrews, Robert Glenn, Richard Ahrendsen, Willis Glenn, Lloyd Wood and Richard Nelson. Mr. Long died at his home near Olin on October 17.

He was born in Cedar County July 26, 1902, the son of Benjamin and Anna Goodale Long. He attended rural schools in Cedar County on August 4, 1924, he married Beulah Letherman at Hays, KS. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids until his retirement after 33 years as a driver for the Greyhound Bus Co., when they moved to a farm northwest of Olin. Mrs. Long died in 1967.

On April 20, 1969, he married Faith Merritt Williams at Olin, and they have lived on the farm near Olin since that time.

Orville was a member of the Olin Methodist church, was superintendent of the church school, and belonged to the Greyhound Bus Drivers' Association.

Surviving him are his wife Faith; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Lois Jeanne) Sackett, Lexington, KY, and Mrs. Luke (Shirley) Toler, Geneseo, NY; two grandsons, Alan and David Emmons; three granddaughters, Laura, Sally and Alice Sackett; one sister, Mrs. John Sharpless, Rochester, IA; and one brother, Raymond, Grandview, IA.

In addition to his first wife and parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
