SPRINGVILLE--Funeral service for Harry U. Freeman, 72, Springville, former Hale township assessor, was held Tuesday afternoon at Springville Presbyterian church with Rev. Charles B. Wilming, pastor of the church officiating. He died Saturday at his home.

Burial was in the Clarence cemetery where a Masonic service in charge of Andy McCormick, Tipton, was held.

Rev. Rolland Badger, Jesup, former Springville pastor, and Mrs. O. J. Emmons furnished music for the service.

Pallbearers included Harry Whitman, Henry Carbee, L. J. Rose, John Armstrong, G. C. Bowdish and W. A. Shaffer.

Son of Hamilton and Agnes Moore Freeman, Mr. Freeman was born Jan. 2, 1869, on a farm six miles north of Clarence. He was married May 25, 1892, to Gertrude Dewell. The couple lived on a farm in Hale township and during this time Mr. Freeman was assessor for the township. Retiring from the farm, they moved to Clarence where Mr. Freeman was mayor for eight years. Mrs. Freeman died in 1928.

He was united in marriage with Mrs. Ethel Christian at Galena, Ill., on Jan. 28, 1932 and they have made their home in Springville since their marriage. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Presbyterian church there at the time of his death.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Lee and Verne, both Clarence; a daughter, Mrs. Isabelle Millard, Central City; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Bleasdell, Holstein; a brother, W. E. Freeman, Olin; five stepchildren, Burdelle, Maurine, Imogene, H. J. and Donald Christian; and five grandchildren.
