Final rites for Matthew Hamilton Van Kirk, 81, who died Thursday at his home in Fairview township, were held Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist church, with Rev. J. K. Delahooke, pastor of the church officiating.

Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers included O. T. Ruhe, G. H. Witham, Frank Ray, George Beaman, A. E. Atkinson and Harris Johnson.

Beam & Miller funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Youngest child of Samuel H. and Margaret Edie Van Kirk, Mr. Van Kirk was born in Franklin county, Iowa, on Aug. 24, 1859. He was married to Ida Staneart at Hampton, on March 30, 1890, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March, 1940.

They lived in Franklin county for a number of years and then moved to Reinbeck for a short time before moving to Anamosa more than 37 years ago.

Mr. Van Kirk is survived by his widow, four sons, Lee, Anamosa, Howard, Superior, Wis., Virgil, who lives on the home farm and Frederick, Denison, Texas; a foster daughter, Mrs. Raymond Jayne, Martelle; three grandchildren, Fay, Max and Billy Van Kirk; three foster grandchildren, Ivan, Nancy and Darleen Jayne; two step grandchildren, Ardis and Eugene Van Kirk. His parents, seven sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

He was united with the Methodist church in early life and was a regular attendant until unable to participate in the services.
