Katharine Bronson, 100, of 1400 Second Ave. SE, and formerly of Wyoming, died Friday in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a short illness.

Born December 8, 1878, at Wyoming the daughter of Sylvester and Hulda Lytton Franks. She resided at Wyoming until 1945, when she moved to Glen Echo, MD, where she lived with her sister, Josephine Hayes, who owned the Clara Barton House.

She and her sister were instrumental in having the Clara Barton House declared a national historical site. Mrs. Bronson was very active in Red Cross work during WWI, was the oldest member of the Wyoming Methodist Church, was a Past Worthy Matron of OES and a member of the Hawthorne Club. She had lived in Cedar Rapids since 1964.

Surviving are one sister, Miss Henrietta Franks of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons Howard and William, four sisters and two brothers.

Services were held Monday, July 9, at the Hayden Funeral Home by Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Burial was in the Wyoming Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Melvin Sievers, Dennis Tabor, Fred Luckstead, Herman Carstensen, David Tabor and Phil Tabor.
