Death of L. B. Peck

Last Tuesday evening, H. L Peck, foreman of the Pioneer office, received the sad message announcing the death of his father, L. B. Peck at Anamosa. Mr. Peck was a victim of paralysis. One year ago the disease first appeared and since he declined rapidly, until death ended his suffering.

Mr. Peck was born in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, February 20, 1837, and first came to Iowa in 1856. Later he returned to Pennsylvania and remained there until 1864. In that year he returned to Anamosa and embarked in the mercantile business, and for many years conducted one of the largest stores in the city. In 1867 he was married to Miss Annie Gray, who with five children survive him, namely, Henry L. of this city; John A., Calhan, Colorado; Mrs. D. W. Ellis, Tyrus and Stella Peck, of Anamosa.

For fourteen years Mr. Peck was city clerk of Anamosa and also served as city assessor a number of terms. He was a generous and genial gentleman, one who took deep interest in public affairs, and in his political views was an ardent democrat. He was zealously partisan in his political opinions, and happily gifted with the ability to intelligently express and defend the doctrines of his party.

His son, L. B. Peck, and family of this city, spent Sunday with his father, and his many friends here sympathize with him in the sorrowful mission which has again called him to Anamosa. The funeral was held from the residence yesterday.
