OLIN--Funeral services were held Sunday, March 12, for Mrs. Dick Carstens, 88, who died Friday, March 10 in Lisbon. Short services were conducted by Rev. Eugene Miller at the Morgan Funeral home, Lisbon, at 1 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m., in St. John's Lutheran church, Olin, by Rev. J. P. Willms, Monticello. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers were M. C. Benischek, W. G. Benischek, Richard Benischek, Gary Carstens, Keith Dirks and Duane LeCere.

Mrs. Kenneth Zimmerman, organist, accompanied Mrs. Kenneth Guhl who sang "Rock of Ages" and "In the Garden".

Sophia Quandt, third child of Christian and Louise Quandt was born in Mecklinberg, Schwerine, Germany, July 5, 1872. Family came to America in 1882 and settled in Lost Nation.

She was married to Dick Carsten, Oct. 25, 1893, at Smithtown, a small settlement between Lost Nation and Oxford Junction. Their entire married life was spent farming near Olin where they retired in 1915, later returning to the farm in 1932. In 1937 they again returned to Olin until about four years ago when they moved to Lisbon to make their home with their son, Walther. They were the parents of two children, Mrs. Alma Toerber, Oxford Junction, and Walther, Lisbon.

Survivors include her husband and children: six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
