2 February 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

CASCADE--A. G. "Bill" Cover, 62, Cascade, former resident of Anamosa, died Thursday morning, Jan. 26, at Mercy hospital, Dubuque, following a three week illness.

Services were held Saturday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m., at St. Martin's church, Cascade. Burial was in the Calvery cemetery, Cascade. Devaney Funeral home, Cascade, was in charge of arrangements.

Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Daniel O'Sullivan, pastor of St. Martin's parish. He also delivered the sermon and had charge of the burial service in the parish cemetery.

Honorary escorts included 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus; American Legion, Cascade; American Legion auxiliary and a delegation from Mount Carmel Mother House, Dubuque.

He was born Dec. 31, 1898, son of Thomas and Mary Fitzgerald Cover, Millersburg. He spent his early life in the Millersburg area. He attended St. Ambrose college, Davenport.

He was married to Carlyn Devaney, May 19, 1925, at St. Martin's church, Cascade. Prior to the residence in Cascade, the Cover home was made in Anamosa, where Mr. Cover was employed as guard at the Iowa Men's Reformatory.

Cover was a veteran of World war I and was accorded full military honors by the Cascade post. He was a member of the American Legion, financial secretary of the Cascade council Knight of Columbus for the last 20 years and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.

He was a past adjutant of Cascade post No. 528 American Legion; past president of the Cascade Commercial club; and a member of St. Martin's Holy name society.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Thomas Cover and James Cover, both of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Sister William Mary, BVM, Mundelein college, Chicago, Ill.; Peggy, Mrs. Eugene Lighthart, Aurora, Colo.; Patricia, Mrs. Frederich Loes, Cascade.

Others include one sister, Mrs. Joe Raher, Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren.
