September 28, 1978 - The Midland Times

Barbara J. Ward, Center Junction, was killed Monday afternoon when she lost control of her car while driving on Highway 38 about two miles south of Monticello.

Ward, 39, was alone in the auto when the accident occurred around 4:15 p.m., according to Jones County Sheriff John Cook.

Ward evidently passed a semi-trailer and had moved back into her lane of traffic when she veered off into the ditch and then hit a culvert, Cook said. She was thrown from the car.

Authorities pronounced her dead on arrival at Monticello Hospital.

The car, a 1975 Chrysler Cordoba, was totaled.

Cook was assisted by Deputy Sheriff John Miller and the Monticello police department in answering the call.

Services for Ward are planned for 11 a.m., Sept. 29, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, with burial at Riverside Cemetery there.

She was born Jan. 20, 1939 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Elsie Nelson Watson. She attended school in Morley.

On July 10, 1976, she married Terrance Ward.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Earl Wilcox, Hopkinton; three daughters, Teresa Zatare, Oxford Junction, Lisa Wroblewski, Cedar Rapids, and Jerilyn Wilcox, Center Junction; her parents, Anamosa; one brother, Ron, Anamosa; and two sisters, Joan Hopkins, Anamosa and Joyce Mulbrook, Kellogg.
