15 September 1960 - The Anamosa Eureka

CENTER JUNCTION--Oliver T. Roberts, 60, Center Junction farmer, was killed late Wednesday morning, Sept. 14, when his tractor overturned and crushed him.

Roberts was alone at his farm, 2 1/2 miles southwest of Center Junction, at the time of the accident, according to report to County Sheriff L. M. Dreibelbis.

Indications were that Roberts was on the tractor pulling a hay baler up a ramp from the basement to upper level of his barn, when the machine went off the ramp. He was pinned under the tractor.

Body was found by Roberts' wife upon her return home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Elton Wells, Cedar Rapids, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pearcell cemetery, Parnell.

He was born May 16, 1900, son of John Roberts and Polly Greaser Roberts, near Iowa City. He was married to Sadie Wade, North English, on July 9, 1924, at North English. Couple farmed in Iowa county until 1950, when they moved to a farm near Springville. He had lived on the present farm for two years.

Survivors include his wife Sadie; two daughters, Ann Garringer and Charlotte, at home; two sons, Dale, Kalona, and Carroll, LaPorte City.

Other survivors include a brother, Elvin Roberts, Keota; two half-brothers, Earl Batterson, North Redding, Mass.; and Elmer Robertson, Wellman; two half-sisters, Mrs. Vera Wolf, Winterhaven, Fla.; and Mrs. Blanche Summers, Lincoln, Nebr.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis; his parents and one brother.
