OLIN--Frank A. Ballou, Independence, former Jones county resident, died Monday, Aug. 15, at the People's hospital. He had been in ill health for the last few months.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m., at the First Methodist church, Independence. Rev. A. A. Howe, assistant pastor, and Rev. William Noland, Estherville, formerly of Independence, were in charge of the services.

Burial services were held Wednesday at 4 p.m., at the cemetery at Clarence.

He was born Oct. 25, 1882, in Jones county, the son of Hosea and Maria Schaff Ballou. He was married to Bessie Phillips, Davenport, Dec. 17, 1908.

He graduated from business college in Cedar Rapids, graduated from Parker college, Minnesota, and the Moody Bible institute, Chicago. He was trained to do Y.M.C.A. work, but was forced to give up this work because of ill health.

He came to Independence in 1944, and was engaged in business with his son, Paul, at the Ballou Oil Co. He was a member of the First Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul, Independence, and Howard, Washington; five grandchildren, and one great-grandson; and one sister, Mrs. Capitola Bond, Vero Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents.

White Funeral home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
