Knude Melhus, 88, a former Wyoming resident, died Sunday, January 29, in Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Born May 20, 1889 at Norway, he married Hattie Usher on August 13, 1931 in Rock Island, Illinois. He had been a Cedar Rapids resident the past 35 years. He was employed by the State Highway Commission and the Iowa Manufacturing Company prior to his retirement.

Melhus was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, V.F.W., U.A.W. Harmony Lodge Local #831, and was a former member of American Legion Post #259 in Wyoming. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War I.

Memorial services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with Rev. Terry Slinde of Hope Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the V.F.W. Memorials may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church memorial fund or other charity.

Survivors include two step-sons, Kermit Usher, Wyoming and Cecil Usher, Kasson, Minnesota; four step-daughters, Margaret Petersen and Helen Griga, both of Cedar Rapids, Mildred Millsap, Wyoming and Blanche Erland, Newhall; 22 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
