Funeral services were held for Mrs. Sophie Marie Balichek, 84, of Oxford Junction on Monday, January 16, at the Hayden Funeral Home. Burial was at Mayflower Cemetery. Services were conducted by the Rev. Ramon Booth of Cedar Rapids. Music was presented by Mrs. Otto Koranda and Herbert Rehmke, vocalists and Mrs. Leis Hayden, organist.

Mrs. Balichek died Thursday, January 12 at the Crestridge Care Center, Maquoketa.

She was born in Suchdol, Czechoslovakia on May 6, 1893, the daughter of Thomas and Anna Bina Pashek. She came to the United States in 1908. On May 28, 1912 she was married to George Balichek in Oxford Junction. They farmed near Oxford Junction until his death in 1966, at which time she moved to town.

Survivors are two sons, Louis and George of Oxford Junction; two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Blanche) Vacek of Oxford Junction and Mrs. James (Anna) Schneider of Monticello; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, those preceding her in death were one son, two brothers, two sisters and one grandson.

Pallbearers were James Balichek, Ronald Balichek, the Rev. Eugene Vacek, David Vacek, Robert Hoffman and Merville Brunscheen.
