Funeral services for John Christiansen, 79, were held at the Hayden Funeral Home Thursday, January 12 at 1:30 p.m. He died at his home in Olin, January 10 following a lengthy illness.

Pastor John Flaa conducted the services. Ronald Ketelsen was soloist and Mrs. Greg VonBehren was organist.

He was born July 11, 1898 in Schlesweig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Christian and Anna Holchsen Christiansen. He came to the United States in March, 1923, and married Catherine Ketelsen in Anamosa on January 7, 1927. In earlier years, John was employed by Iowa Electric Company. He then farmed near Monticello and in 1940 began selling Ford cars at Olin, later selling farm machinery for several years. He retired five years ago, due to failing health.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; one sister, Mrs. Emma Osterkamp, Anamosa; and two sisters, Freda Lorenz and Catherine Nissen, both in Germany. His parents, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Casket bearers were Rick Sieversen, Donald Ketelsen, Robert Prull, Sidney Schatz, William Ketelsen and Nile Husmann. Burial was in North Madison Cemetery near Center Junction.
