SIEVERS, YOUNG, HURT, RESIDE

25 February 1960 - The Anamosa Eureka

MARTELLE--Henry C. Sievers, 78, Martelle, died Monday evening, Feb. 22, at his home in the Martelle area.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 25, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's church, Anamosa. Rev. J. A. McMahon officiated. Burial was in St. John cemetery, Lisbon.

Rosary was recited on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the Goettsch Funeral home.

Pallbearers were Francis Brady, Victor Knight, Stan Waldron, Cecil Brannon, Fred Miller and Clarence Schmit.

He was born Nov. 26, 1881, son of Claus and Marie Griebel Sievers, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. He was married Feb. 16, 1909, to Mary E. Young, Mechanicsville. Couple farmed in Cedar and Jones counties all their married life.

He was a member of St. Patrick's church, Knights of Columbus, and was active in the Farm Bureau for over 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E., one daughter, Mrs. Leona Hurt, Cedar Rapids; three sons, Edwin Sievers and John Sievers, Anamosa; and Eugene Sievers, Hiawatha.

Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Anna Reside, Waterloo; six brothers, Harry Sievers, Stanwood; Peter Sievers, Wyoming; William Sievers, Mechanicsville; Grover Sievers, Emmetsburg; Hans Sievers, Sunbury; and Max Sievers, Mount Vernon; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one grandson.
