February 25, 1960 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. S. D. Soper, Kennewick, Wash., former Anamosa resident, died recently at the Kennewick, Wash., hospital after suffering a stroke.

She had made her home with her son, Steven Wilbur Soper, Kennewick, for the last three years.

She was born Margaret Barbara May, June 30, 1864, daughter of Nicholas and Mary Wagoner May, east of Anamosa. She attended country school and the Anamosa high school. She taught school in the country schools.

She was married in 1884 to S. D. Soper. Couple farmed northeast of Anamosa in the Burr Oak community. She was active in church and school work. She served as organist at church and also taught the Burr Oak school.

Couple lived for awhile in Anamosa then moved to Edgemont, S. Dak., then to Kennewick, Wash. She was a member of the First Methodist church, Kennewick.

Survivors include one son, Steven Wilbur Soper, Kennewick, Wash.; one brother, J. F. May, Anamosa; one sister, Mrs. J. D. Peet, Mount Vernon; 16 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1942; one daughter, Grace May Soper, who died at the age of six months; and one son, Herbert Douglas Soper, who died eight years ago.

Funeral services were held at Kennewick. Burial was in River View Heights cemetery, Kennewick. Pallbearers were six grandsons.
