Bliss Switzer, 74, died at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday, October 4, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Olin, last Friday, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Gary Dobbins in charge. Mrs. Keith Hatcher, organist, played "How Great Thou Art."

Pallbearers were Richard Switzer, Jack Switzer, Newton Hollingsworth Jr., Larry Easler, Larry Jones and Fred Lawson. Burial was in the Olin Cemetery.

He was born in Olin on April 2, 1903, the son of James and Sara Knight Switzer, He attended Olin area schools and lived his entire life in the Olin area. On May 27, 1922 he married Velma Jones, and the couple had four children. He worked 32 years as a Standard Oil agent until his retirement.

He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Olin Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Velma; two sons, Donavon of Cedar Rapids, Bernard of Hiawatha; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Eyestons of Fort Morgan, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Evelyn Shirley, Glenwood; and a half-brother, Jack Shirley of Brownfield, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and a half-brother.
