Robert S. Leinen, 60, of 2919 Oakland road NE, died at University Hospitals in Iowa City Monday evening after being hit by a car driven by Rick L. Swore, 21, of 1917 Fiftieth Street NE.

Leinen, who was standing in his yard about 16 feet from the road, was hit when Swore reportedly lost control of his car while traveling north on Oakland Road NE and it jumped the curb, according to a police report. The vehicle traveled ten more feet after striking Leinen and struck a tree, according to the report.

Robert S. Leinen, a resident of Cedar Rapids for the last 32 years, was born March 8, 1916 at Anamosa. He had lived in Onslow before moving to Cedar Rapids.

He was married to Virginia Phelps March 17, 1947, at Troy, Kan., and had been employed at Collins Radio Co., and most recently by Wilson and Co. He was an army veteran of World War II and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Darrell Staner, Arvada, Colo.; a son Douglas Leinen, Seattle, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ronald O'Neill, Cedar Rapids; a stepson, William Phelps, Center Junction; two sisters, Wilma Lycke, Los Angeles, Calif., and Esther Anderson, Cedar Rapids; two brother, Donald Leinen, Onslow and Howard Leinen, Altoona, and 12 grandchildren.
