Funeral services for Helen M. Bahnsen, 84, were held Wednesday, Feb 8, 1995 at the United Methodist Church, Wyoming with burial in Wyoming Cemetery. The Rev. Roger Wilson Officiated at the services.

Helen M. Bahnsen of Wyoming died Saturday, Feb. 4 at Crestridge Care Center, Maquoketa, after a short illness.

Helen M. First ws born on Oct 13, 1910 near Onslow, the daugher of Clarence and ada Streeper First. She began her education in a country school east of Wyoming and completed her schooling at Wyoming High School where she graduated in 1928.

On Dec 27, 1932, Helen M. First married Ben Bahnsen at Blair, Nebr. The couple farmed east of Wyoming until moving to Wyoming in 1939 where they operated a tavern until 1948. In 1952, they again purchased a tavern in Wyoming. He died in 1958 and she continued to operated the business until 1959. She then worked for the Crescent Printing Company at Wyoming until retiring in 1979. Failing health forced her to move to the care center in 1992.

Helen Bahnsen was a member of the wyoming United Methodist church, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #259 of Wyoming and had held local and county offices in that organization.
Survivors include two daughters: Phyllis (Mrs. Clarence) Brown of Wyoming and Darlene Henderson of Plymouth, Minn; a son, Eugene Bahnsen of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mabel Anderson of Plymouth, Minn., and Vivian (Mrs. Herbert) Jackson of Tingley and one brother, Donald First of Scotch Grove.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
Hayden Funeral Home, Wyoming, was in charge of arrangements.
