Alice Jeanetta Rathje was born on June 6, 1914 in Nashua, Iowa, daughter of Jurgen and Henrietta (Martensen) Rathje. She graduated in 1932 from Wyoming High School. She married Raymond Holtz on September 12, 1935 at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. Raymond died September 3, 1984. On November 12, 1988, she married Lafayette "Lafe" Bahnsen at the Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. Lafayette died December 24, 1991. She was a homemaker and had worked at Miller's Drug Store in Wyoming for a summer before her marriage. She was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Sarah Circle.

Survivors include one son, Richard R. (Karen) Holtz of Bettendorf; 4 step-children, Laurel (Marcia) Bahnsen of Onslow, Luanne (Allan) Heitshusen of S. Amana, Laverne (Jan) Bahnsen of Center Point, & Louis (Becky) Bahnsen of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 2 grandchildren, David (Nicole) Holtz of Alexandria, Minnesota & Gretchen Holtz of Bettendorf, Iowa; 8 step-grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, Maddie, Jack & Logan Holtz; 6 step-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John and Herman, and one sister, Anna.

Alice J. Holtz-Bahnsen, 96, of Wyoming, Iowa, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa, Iowa.
