Obituary of John McNamara

John J. McNamara who died at his home Tuesday, April 6th, was born in the city of Boston, April 12, 1840. He was the oldest of three brothers, all of whom are dead, William having died in Butte, Mont. And James, the youngest of the three, died at the home in Jones county, Iowa, where his father and mother moved to from the city of Boston.

At the age of 27 he married his present wife, Bridget Carr, who with their four children survive him. He lived on his farm in Jones county until he moved to Woodbury county about 20 years ago. He always lived the the life of a farmer and was noted for his honesty and fairness in his dealings with men. Kind and charitable, friendly and cheerful in prosperity or adversity always the same, no criticism or the doings or conduct of his fellow men, not an unkind word towards anyone, he lived an enviable life and was respected by all who knew him. He was a devout member of the Catholic church and one of the largest contributors so the upbuilding of church and school in this community. He lived and died in the faith of his parents and was looked upon as an honest, kind, Christian man.

His surviving relatives are his wife and four children, two sons and two daughters, all grown to man and womanhood. They all live on the large estate owned by him. He also leaves to mourn his loss hiss half-sister, Catherine Sullivan, and his half-brother, D.W. Connole the only surviving members of his mother’s family. He was buried April 8th in the Catholic Cemetery at Anthon beside his step-brother, Joseph Connole and wife. The funeral was a very large one, consisting of all his friends and the friends of his family and relatives. May his soul rest in peace.
