Sterling does not appear to have lived in Johnson County. In the 1930 census, at the age of 25 he lived in Sioux City, Woodburry Co, Iowa, and was already listed as "musician, traveling". In 1920, he is found in Spencer, Clay Co, Iowa; and in 1910 in Wakefield Township, Dixon Co, Nebraska. His parents were Charles S. and Mary S. Grabin both born in Iowa. I could not find a death record for him using the Social Security Death Index.
