Carl E. Arndt, 83, of 309 A Avenue in Kalona, died Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a long illness.

Funeral Services will be held Monday at 10:00 am at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Iowa City.
Memorials may be directed to Kalona First Responders or Mercy Hospital Foundation.

Carl was born May 28, 1922 in Searsboro, Iowa, the son of Adam & Zelda (Hildebrand) Arndt. He attended school in Kirksville. Carl married Darlene Wheeler June 9, 1950 in Ottumwa.

He worked for the University of Iowa Campus Security for 27 years, retiring as Lieutenant in 1986. Carl served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 during WWII and received a certificate of honor from the U.S. Strategic Bomb Survey during the European Occupation.

Carl treasured time spent with his family and had a passion for fishing and camping.
He & his wife wintered in Pampano Beach, Florida for the past 18 years.
Carl was a loving, caring and strong willed man. His family & friends shall remember him as a proud man who had a vibrant zest for life!

Survivors include his wife Darlene;
daughters, Carla (Mike) Krantz of Kalona,
Sheila (Tracy) Britton of Wellman and
Julie (Kent) Kunze of Waukee, Iowa

siblings Jerry (Margaret) Arndt of West Des Moines, Marvine Lane of Omaha, Wilma Fortney and Pat (Bill) Kutcher, all of Ottumwa and Carol (Denny) Krehbiel of Cambridge, Iowa;

brothers in law, Francis Wheeler of Coralville & Gail Wheeler of Ottumwa and a good friend, John Crawford of Iowa City

grandchildren, Shawn Krantz, Jaime (Rob) Maher, Jared, Josie, Jacki and Jonah Kunze; one great-grandson, Aiden Maher and several nieces & nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert & Bill Arndt and a sister, Marge Brown.
