Ruben Martin Hauser, 80, of Iowa City died peacefully Sunday, January 15, 2006 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 11am at the Welsh Congregational Church with the Rev. Jerry Stevenson officiating. Burial with Military Rites provided by the Coralville American Legion Walter Johnson Post #721 at the church cemetery. A reception at the church will follow the committal. Friends may call from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, where a Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Welsh Congregational Church.

Ruben was born April 30, 1925 on a farm near Westfield, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Lena Ferdig Hauser. His family later moved to Sioux City, where he was proud to be part of the South Bottoms neighborhood. As a young man he apprenticed under Burt Mann in his dental lab. He served in the US Army during WWII. While in the Army he was the head dental technician at the Fort Dix dental lab. Following military service he returned to Sioux City and became co-owner, and later owner of the Mann Dental Lab. On November 18, 1950 he married Bonnie Ann Broesder at the Presbyterian Church in Lismore, Minnesota.

In 1962, Ruben became the head dental technician in the dental lab at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Ruben retired in 1985 and was instrumental in establishing the dental technician program at Kirkwood Community College.

Ruben was a member of the Welsh Congregational Church and a lifelong member of the Eastside Kiwanis Club, where he had served as president. He was a member of Iowa City Masonic Lodge #4 and a 32nd degree Mason.

He was an avid hunter and a lifelong Hawkeye and Chicago Cub and Bear fan. Ruben was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Ruben is survived by his wife Bonnie, his daughter Renee Hauser of Hills and his son, Tim Hauser of Iowa City; his grandson Ruben; his brother, LeRoy Ferdig of St. Paul, Minnesota; a special cousin George Ferdig of Iowa City; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins from the Sioux City area.

Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ike and an infant brother.
