Chiyo S. Nelson, 83 of Solon died January 12, 2006 at her daughter’s home following a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City. Rev. Mary Johnston will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street Iowa City, IA 52240.

Chiyo was born on November 20, 1922 in Saga, Japan. She married Allan W. Nelson on June 2, 1952. On April 14, 1955 she received her U.S. Citizenship in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Chiyo husband passed away on June 16, 1989. Chiyo has lived in Solon with her daughter since 2003.

Chiyo is survived by her four daughters; Pamela J. Cisney and her husband Paul of Solon, IA, JoAnn Wattman and her husband Mike of Frankfort, IL, Karen Haberer and her husband Gene of Hartington, NE, Teresa McClive and her husband Jack of Lancaster, CA, and John Nelson and his wife Sheri of Sonora, CA; and 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Hiroji Suetsgu of Japan.

Chiyo is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.
