Mary K. Marshek, 87, of Atrium Village in Hills, died Monday, January 9, 2006 at Mercy Hospital following a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation for Macular Degeneration Research, P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, Iowa. 52244-4550.

Mary was born February 28, 1918 in Morse, Iowa, the daughter of John G. & Alice (Burns) Donohue.
She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City. Mary was united in marriage to Bohumil “Bones” Marshek November 26, 1940 in Morse, Iowa. The couple operated the General Store in Morse until 1945. Mary was a homemaker, helped with the family farm and enjoyed flower gardening and playing cards. When they were not working, Mary & her husband would spend time dancing at local lodges in the Johnson County area. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church & St. Patrick’s Altar & Rosary Society.

Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Diane Yoder (Loran) of Lone Tree, Robert Marshek (Donna) of Iowa City, and Larry Marshek (Dee) of Iowa City; 10 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and eight brothers.
