Death Takes
James O'Brien

James P. O'Brien, 58 of 23 West Harrison street, died suddenly at Mercy hospital Monday at 6:10 p.m. following a short illness.
The son of Patrick H. and Catherine Welsh O'Brien, he was born February 28, 1897, near Cosgrove.
He moved to Iowa City over 35 years ago. Mr. O'Brien had been employed by an oil company during the past 23 years.
He was married to the former Loretta Bradley, July 4, 1934, at St. Patrick's church in Iowa City.
A member of St. Patrick's church, he was associated with the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick's, the Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of the Moose.

SURVIVORS INCLUDE his widow, one daughter, Jean, and one son, Jimmy, all at home.
He is also survived by his father and step-mother, Elizabeth Stockman O'Brien, three brothers, Lester and Donald of Lynwood, Calif, Ralph of Iowa City, and tow sisters, Mrs. Charles Brogia and Mrs. Henry Swartzendruber, both of Iowa City.
His mother and one brother, John, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's church. Burial will be in the new section of St. Joseph's cemetery.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary tonight at 8 p.m. at the Hohenschuh mortuary. The rosary will be recited by the parish Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
