Mrs. Marjorie Osdoba, 92, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 in Sioux City.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 27, at 1:30pm, at the Lensing Funeral Service with Peter Rubenstein officiating. Burial will be at Agudas Achim Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4pm at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Marjorie Louise was born on August 30, 1913, in Burlington, the daughter of Frank C. and Grace (Archer) Kiehne. She graduated from the Burlington High School, the Burlington Community College, and the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Her professional career included being a registered nurse at the University of Iowa Hospital’s Plastic Surgery Department, being Director of Nursing at the Iowa City Care Center, and being a nurse at the Burlington Hospital.

On August 30, 1938, she married Samuel Osdoba, from Brooklyn, New York, in a beautiful formal garden wedding at her parents’ home. They first resided in Iowa City, while Dr. Osdoba completed dental school. They then moved to Orange City, where he practiced dentistry and together, they raised five children.

In 1999, Mrs. Osdoba became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. On October 31 of this year, she transferred to the Westwood Center in Sioux City.

Mrs. Osdoba was active in many organizations, including P. E. O (Chapter C. D.), Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Northwest Iowa Women’s Club, Sioux City Dental Auxiliary, literature club, sewing club, Alpha Delta Psi, Hadassah, University of Iowa Alumni Association, and the women’s circle of the American Reformed Church.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Susan and Stephen Strauss, of Iowa City; Gloria and Dr. Gary Moreau, of Anaheim Hills, California; Frank and Peggy Osdoba, of Spirit Lake; Karen and Jim Van Roekel, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; and Edward and Robin Osdoba, of Seattle, Washington. Marjorie was a loving and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to Michael and Cathy Strauss, and their children, Jacob and Dana, of Indianapolis, Indiana; Deborah (Strauss) and Timothy Blake, and their children, Madeline, Samuel, and Ethan, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Amy (Moreau) and John Grimley, and their children, Sarah, Michael, and Isaac, of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Rachel (Moreau) and Keenan Newby, of Crystal Lake, Illinois; Angela (Osdoba) and Ryan Ericson, of Sioux City; Daniel Osdoba and Dr. Amy Kelley, of Indianapolis; David and Amy Van Roekel, and their children, Hannah and Nicole, of Orange City; Sarah (Van Roekel) and Hal Goldflam, of Valencia, California; and Havala (Osdoba) and Eric Duby, of San Francisso, California. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Frank C. and Delores Kiehne, of Reading Pennsylvania; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and a sister, Mrs. Stephen (Verna) Beckford.

“Grandma Marge” will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, love of life, and wonderful smile. She was truly an inspiration and friend to all her knew and loved her.

Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Iowa Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or the Hospice of Siouxland in Sioux City.
