George J. Knottnerus, 72, of 2225 Arizona Ave., died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at his home after a lengthy illness.

A funeral service will be held on 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16 at Lensing Funeral Service with the Rev. Robert Gable officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the George J. Knottnerus memorial fund.

George was born August 8, 1933 the son of Rudy and Hilda Knottnerus. He worked for the City of Iowa City in the water department and the streets departments. On September 28, 1957 he married Barb Feehan.

He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Eagles of Iowa City. He loved racing cars, camping, fishing, hunting and his three dogs and bird.

He is survived by his wife Barb of Iowa City, five children; Rick Knottnerus of White Water, WI, Terry Knottnerus of Tiffin, IA, Randy Knottnerus of Kalona, IA, Mark Knottnerus and his wife Mary of Iowa City, IA and his daughter, Mary Knottnerus of Monticello, IA; eight grandchildren; Sean, Nicole, Justin, Amanda, Taren, Kristin, Chris and Derik; and one great-granddaughter, Faith Hill Hartwig. He is also survived by two brothers, Bob and his wife Hilda of Washington, IA and Donny of Gulf Port, IL. And by his mother-in-law, Mary Feehan of Monticello, IA.

George was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Steven.
