Beverly L. Melberg, 83, of 136 Friendship Street in Iowa City, died Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Iowa City Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center following complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Beverly chose to be cremated. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 27th, at 11:00 am at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City with Pastor Robert Foster. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Research, c/o The U of I Foundation.

Bev was born October 8, 1922 in Pardeeville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Warren & Lenna Stafford. Raised in Pardeeville and moving to Chicago in the early 1930’s, Bev was a professional dancer in the early 1940’s, touring the United States with the Abbet Dancers of Chicago. She married Vernon Melberg September 4, 1942 in Topeka, Kansas. The couple lived in Chicago until 1983 – when they moved to Iowa City. Bev & Vernon recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Bev was a homemaker and was a member of the choir at St. John’s Church in LaGrange, Illinois.

Survivors include her husband Vernon; two daughters, Merrilee Beckman & her husband Dr. Robert Beckman of Iowa City and Myia Sterling & her husband Jack Sterling of Chagrin, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael Beckman & his wife Karen, Mari Beckman-Lau & her husband Eric Lau, Nathan Lockrem & his wife Monica, Christopher Lockrem & his wife Amy; great-grandchildren, Siduri, Lua, Asher & Rowan; sisters in law, Marian Staffordof Pardeeville, Wisconsin and Miriam Stafford of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; and aunt, Dorothy Wing of Pacwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents & two brothers, Warren & Rodney.
