Vesta I. Cornett, 83, of Iowa City, IA formerly of Chillicothe, OH and Lake Placid, FL died Friday, December 9, 2005, following complications of a stroke which she suffered earlier this year.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, December 17, 2005 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Services, 210 Holiday Rd, Coralville, IA. Rev. Judy Gingerich will officiate. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in her name.

Vesta was born April 15, 1922 in Colly Kentucky, the daughter of Bill K. and Lettie Belle Blair.
She graduated from Louisville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She served as an Officer in the Army Nurse Corps from 1943-1945. On November 3, 1945 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia Vesta married Paul R. Cornett. She spent her entire professional career working as a Registered Nurse, with a special love for operating room nursing. Vesta was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Vesta was a remarkable Nurse and a remarkable human being. Everything she did was done with her whole heart and soul. She never met a stranger. Vesta was a kind, generous and caring person. She was a devout Christian, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Vesta and her husband moved to the Iowa City area in 2000 to be near their daughter and grandchildren.

Vesta is survived by her daughter Paula Mobily and (Ken) of Iowa City,
two grandchildren; Michelle Mobily of Iowa City, IA, Matthew Mobily of Iowa City, IA, four sisters; Jane Smith (Roger) of Louisville, KY, Alpha Werner (Bob) of Cincinnati, OH, Margaret Jenkins of Mercer Island, WA, and Wilma Bentley of Whiteburg, KY; one brother, Wayne Blair (Dusty) of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Vesta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Gertrude Blair and by one brother, Bill Blair,
