Susan A. Wasson, 58, of 414 Crestview Avenue in Iowa City, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from cancer.

Susan chose to be cremated. Private services will be held. Memorials may be directed, in Susan’s name, to The Crisis Center or to the college fund of her minor son, Addison, at the address above. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Born April 2, 1947, the daughter of Ole and Bernice Haugejorde, in Huron, South Dakota and graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1965. She was in the choir and band in high school and was a lifelong lover of music. She later attended Iowa Weslyan University and graduated with a B.A. degree in May of 1968. In college she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Susan married Weyburn Wasson on June 4, 1968. She taught junior high school in Burlington, Iowa from September 1968 to June 1969. The couple then moved to Brookings, South Dakota and in 1970 moved to Winona, Minnesota – where they resided until 1977. Their son Lewis was adopted in June of 1976. Moving to Sioux City, Iowa in September of 1977, Susan attended the University of South Dakota and completed graduate work. In 1984, the family moved to London, England. They enjoyed a year of traveling on the continent and participating in many musical events in London.

In 1985, the family moved to Washington, D.C.. Their son Addison was born on December 22, 1988 in Silver Springs, Maryland. While in Washington, Susan worked for Fanny Mae Real Estate as an analyst. IN 1990, the family moved to Davenport, Iowa. Susan received her M.B.A. from St. Ambrose University in May of 1994. While in Davenport, she taught English in the adult continuing education program. In the fall of 1993, the family moved to Iowa City.

Susan was co-founder of the Mother-To-Mother Program, served as an advisor to the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, was active as a moderate in the Republican Party, PEO, NOW, and served on the financial boards of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and First United Methodist Church, where she was currently a member.

She worked for Heartland Investment Associates from 1997 – 2001. In 2001, Susan became a registered broker / dealer and formed Addison Lewis Investment Services, working with clients age 50 & over, as a retirement adviser. She received her certificate from Senior Advisors (CSA) in 2002 and the Institute of Social & Economic Development in 2003. She was currently associated with Stonefield Advisory Group in Cedar Rapids.

Susan was divorced in 2004.

Survivors include her two sons, Addison and Louis of Iowa City; her mother, Bernice Haugejorde of Iowa City; two sisters, Sally Elliman of Whitefish, Montana and Lynn Sauter of Mountain View, California; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.
