Richard Joseph Kron, 85, formerly of 3415 Tulane Ct. died Saturday December 3, 2005 at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center surrounded by his wife and family.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday December 6, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Reverend Kenneth Kuntz will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:30 to 7 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30pm Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to St. Mary’s Church or Mercy Hospital Foundation for the Parkinson’s Disease Support Group.

Richard was born on June 7, 1920 in Washington County, IA to Reno and Rose Heitzman Kron. He was raised on a farm near Riverside and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Riverside. Richard served in the US Navy during World War II. On July 16, 1946 he married Bernice Leeney at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City.

Richard had been employed by Bausch and Lomb in Iowa City as an optician for thirty six years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

Richard had the ability to fix anything. He enjoyed woodworking and was very creative with all his projects. In earlier years he had been a little league coach, an avid Cubs fan and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Richard was a kind and gentle man who lovingly cared for his wife and family. He cherished the time spent caring for his grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife Bernice; one daughter, Kathy Lilli of Iowa City; two sons, Ron (Linda) Kron of Iowa City and Tom (Carla) Kron of Sandy Hook, CT.;
Seven grandchildren, Shane (Marti) Kron, Rachael (Chris) Pisarik and Dario Lilli of Iowa City and Michael (Krystal) Kron of Urbandale, Justin Kron of New York City, Alex and Alison Kron, both of Sany Hook CT.; seven great grandchildren Anna, Ian, Samantha, Noah, Aubrey, Savannah and Mallory; his sister Aileen Kron of West Branch.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Alberta Frantz.
