Verna Bigelow, 88, of 26 Prospect Place died Saturday, November 19, 2005 at
Legacy Gardens surrounded by her family.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at Lensing Funeral Service-605 Kirkwood Ave. Iowa City. Burial will be at a later date at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Verna was born August 23, 1917 in Iowa City, the daughter of Stanley sand Ethel King Fox. She was a graduate of City High School. On June 17, 1945 Verna married Leslie Bigelow. Prior to Leslie’s death in July, 2005 they had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Verna had been employed by the United States Geological Survey. She later worked at the City High Cafeteria for the Iowa City School District.

Verna was a member of the Izaak Walton League; the Rock, Gem and Mineral Club;
the Fun and Sun Club; and the Iowanders Camp Clubs. She and her husband enjoyed
traveling and spent time in Texas following retirement. Verna had been an instructor
in china and porcelain painting , and had been involved in theater, church and choir groups.

Verna is survived by her two sons, Warren (Barbara) Bigelow of Iowa City and Craig (Bonnie) Bigelow of McHenry, Illinois; five grandchildren, Mandy Bigelow, Clint Bigelow and Kristin Bigelow of Iowa City and Benjamin Bigelow and Stephanie Bigelow of McHenry, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother George Fox and one sister Evelyn Tish.
