John Howard Jensen, 70, of Oxford, died peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, November 17, 2005 at UIHC following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 21, 2005 at 10am at St. Peter’s Church, Cosgrove with Rev. Edmund Dunn officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Holbrook. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2 to 8pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with a Parish Vigil Service to be held at 5:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Friends of Old St. Michael’s.

John was born September 28, 1935 in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of John and Esther (Stock) Jensen. He was a graduate of Lone Tree High School. On October 4, 1958 he married Dorothyjean Donohoe at St. Michael’s Church in Holbrook.

John retired as a groundskeeper from the University of Iowa. In addition, he and his family have farmed in Johnson County for many years. He loved to work outside with the animals and spend time on the farm. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

John is survived by his wife, Dorothyjean; his ten children, John C. (Shan) Jensen of Evansville, Indiana, Valerie (Tom) Seelman of Oxford, Yolonda (Tim) Wagamon and
Jeanine (Rod) Sedlacek, both of Solon, Tom (Courtney) Jensen of Parnell, William (Jenny) Jensen of Oxford, Glenn Jensen of Coralville, George (Angie) Jensen of Williamsburg, Iola (Lary) Feldkamp of Solon and Arthur Jensen of Oxford; nineteen grandchildren, John T. Jensen, Travis and Megan Aubrecht and Kiley Seelman, Matt, Jason and Brian Wagamon, Michael and Nikki Sedlacek, Tyler, Madeline and Emily Jensen, Stephen, David and Grant Jensen, Garrett and Gavin Jensen, Katelyn and Kellie Feldkamp. He is also survived by his sister Alice (Al) Kelp of Petaluma, California and brother Harold (Jean) Jensen of Santa Rosa, California.

John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Doris Potter and Ruth Klinkkammer. Also, Anna Rothenhoefer and Wilbur and Wilma Idle, who cared for him after his parents death.
