Stanley G. Yoder, Sr., 82, of 730 E. Bloomington Street died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Mercy Hospital of a heart condition.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 18, 2005 at 10am at St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. Jeff Belger officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 8pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Stan was born September 15, 1923 near Wellman, Iowa, the son of Marion L. Bertha M. (Swartzendruber) Yoder. Stan attended rural schools and graduated from Wellman High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On March 14, 1947 he married Thelma M. Hogan. She died in August, 2001.

Stan was a letter carrier for the Postal Service from 1949 till his retirement in October, 1990. For many years he delivered mail in downtown Iowa City. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Stan will be remembered by family and friends for his gentle, fun loving spirit. He will be greatly missed.

Stan is survived by his son, Stan Yoder, Jr. of Iowa City; his sister Marjorie (Floyd) Yoder of Kalona; his brother Robert (Barb) Yoder of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law Lucille Yoder and a brother-in-law C. Ray Miller, both of Kalona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Max and his sister Mable Miller.
