On July 8, 2024, Ellen Maire Cole-Amland passed away at the age of 61 following a long illness. She was surrounded by her husband, children and family. A celebration of life will take place at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Coralville Pavilion.
Ellen was born July 9, 1962, in Chicago, IL, to parents Richard (Dick) and Sandra (Lewis) Cole. While growing up Ellen spent a lot of time with her siblings and cousins. Ellen loved to sing and had one of the most beautiful voices. Many family members remember coming to her house as a child to have a sleepover. She would make it fun whether it was watching scary movies, Disney movies or just hanging out. She loved to spoil her daughters, nieces, nephews and new grandchild.
She was passionate about her family and close friends. She was quick to take in anyone who needed help, her door was always open. Ellen gave the best advice and would also let you know if you were in the wrong. She touched the lives of many in one way or another. Ellen was described by many as a beautiful and loving soul as well as a headstrong, stubborn woman (which we could all assume came from her dad).
She started in construction working with her family at a young age and recently drove trucks for Delong Construction for 15 years. She loved her job and who she worked with, and enjoyed all the people she met along the way. Ellen would often be seen carrying a mug of coffee and a cigarette.
Ellen met her husband Randy Amland when they were teenagers and eventually got married in 1995. Ellen is survived by her husband Randy Amland of North Liberty, IA, and her children: Shane Lewis (Alicia Sands) North Liberty, IA, Shanea McColloch (Alex McColloch) and granddaughter Elliana McColloch of Coralville, IA, Lowan Amland of North Liberty, IA. Her mother Sandra Cole, Iowa City, IA. Her siblings: Ed Cole (Cheri Cole) Iowa City, IA, Scott Cole (Shelly Cole) Round Rock, TX, Teresa Deatsch (Bob Deatsch) Iowa City, IA, Anita Pentifold of Ohio, and Jerry Cole (Jeanine Cole) of Paris, TX. She has many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her father Richard Cole, brother Howard (Howie) Cole (aka Bubbaloo), Mother-in-law Maxine Amland of Pacific Junction, IA
Thank you for the compassionate care from her niece Audrie Rodriguez, and her best friend Victoria Childs, who she considered a sister, in helping her begin her new journey.
