Phyllis Irene Floyd, age 101, of Iowa City, formerly of Joliet, IL, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Oaknoll Retirement Community in Iowa City. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet. Phyllis was born May 23, 1923, in Thief Falls, MN, to parents Ernest and Daisy (Krapf) Johnston.
She had an adventurous soul and travelled to many parts of the United States and Canada. She seemed to have a thirst for learning and passed that knowledge onto her students as a teacher in Joliet at both Washington Jr High School and Morton West High School.

When at home, Phyllis took comfort in her love for her dachshunds and her family.

Phyllis was also very talented, not only in teaching her students but also in painting ceramics. She noted in one of her letters that she had only discovered this artistic talent after the passing of her husband and that she planned to spend many hours of her retirement indulging in that craft.

She and her husband Oakley Floyd, who preceded her in death, were members of the Richard Street Methodist Church.
