Helen ‘Jeanette’ Paige Delozier was born December 20th, 1928, in Elkader, Iowa to F.W. Paige and Josephine Boland Paige. She attended school in West Union and graduated from Upper Iowa University. While in college, she played the violin in orchestra and the tuba while in the marching band. Jeanette taught in Quasqueton at the Junior High and High School teaching English, Math and Reading. She also worked at McTaggart’s furniture store in Elkader for 2 years. She and Ralph were married in 1950. While Ralph was drafted in 1951, Jeanette continued to work and stay with him wherever he was training.

Jeanette and Ralph moved to Stanly, IA where Ralph started teaching and coaching. Their first two daughters were born. When they moved to Maynard, IA the 3rd daughter was born and while in Nashua the 4th daughter and first son made their appearance.

She was known for her love of reading, always having a cat in the house, making divinity, cinnamon rolls and loaves of bread, giving us the ‘look’ (she didn’t have to say a word and we knew we were in trouble), taking care of the finances, yard work, keeping in touch with her children and helping (for example- folding laundry, helping move to a different house) and sending birthday cards with money.

Children- Diane (Rick) Lahr, Deborah Delozier, Janice Yoder (Brad both deceased) Jeanne Delozier, Mark (Tammy) Delozier. The Grandchildren grew to 15 and the Great Grandchildren number is 26.

‘What you leave behind is not what is engraved onto stone, but what is woven into the lives of others.’

Quotes from Grandchildren about their Grandmother:

‘Legendary over-feeder of loved ones, selective side-hugger, master of the reverse pickpocket maneuver, and an amazing grandma’

‘She wrote letters and care packages to many of her grandkids when they were away at college--with lots of complaints about how Grandpa wouldn't let her drive.

‘At college, I received many unsolicited advice letters from her, reminding me to make good choices’. She was supportive even when our choices were not the best or out of social norm.’

‘My Grandparents often dressed in like colors. We would tease them about it and Grandpa would just smile while Grandma would insist, SHE got dressed first.

‘I'm going to miss sitting at the kitchen table and talking to her. She was always interested in whatever everyone is doing and getting updates about your life.’

‘ A strong Catholic faith and she was Pro-Choice, Pro LGBTQ,

‘She showed her love in things she did for you--not so much in words or touch. (Though us Grandkids forced our love on her and she eventually expected the hugs and I love you's and gave them in return to us...and only us.)’

‘Reading was her favorite hobby and she would read just about everything you put in front of her.’
